Day 31

Joseph, Husband of Mary

from the reading plan

Matthew 1:18-25, Matthew 2:1-23, Luke 2:41-50, Matthew 13:53-58

Start each day by reading the passages listed above. Then use the summary and reflection provided here to guide discussion around the daily reading.

Joseph was the husband of Mary and the adoptive earthly father of Jesus. Joseph appears mostly in the narratives surrounding Jesus’s birth and adolescence; the Gospels also tell us that he was the father of several other children through Mary and was a carpenter by trade.

In what ways do you connect or resonate with Joseph’s story?

Joseph listened to God. God’s angels help guide Joseph to raise and protect the baby and boy Jesus. Wouldn’t life be much easier if we had angels helping us. Thanks be to God and Jesus for providing the Holy Spirit. He is our helper, available through our prayer life and connects with our spirit to guide us and help us.
    Thank you Lord Jesus!!

  2. Allen Madding says:

I am always amazed at how Joseph listened and obeyed to what he was told in his dreams. How obedient are we to the Holy Spirit? Do we immediately follow his instruction? Or do we spend days questioning, wondering, asking why, asking is this from God, wrestling it against our own will? I have. Father forgive me for questioning and wrestling with your Holy Spirit. Help me to listen intently and follow your instruction.

  3. Jerm says:

Have to wonder if Jesus access to the scriptures was just the temple an d synagogues If that is the case it sure appears Joseph himself spent plenty of time there chewing on the word as well.

  4. Steve says:

Lord forgive me for not listening when you speak. Holy Spirit fill me up and guide me to follow you.

    In Jesus name, amen!
