Day 11

The God Who Resurrects

from the reading plan

Acts 9:31-43, 1 Kings 17:17-22, James 5:13-16, 1 Corinthians 15:12-26, 1 Corinthians 15:50-57

Though Scripture contains many written prayers, like those found in the book of Psalms, and many teachings on how to pray, like the parables and sermons in Jesus’s ministry, this reading plan focuses on the prayers offered to God in the narratives of Scripture. Each day we’ll read a narrative that includes a prayer from an individual or group. Their prayers vary in length, type, posture, purpose, and God’s response. The secondary passages explore how the rest of Scripture speaks to the themes demonstrated in the main reading.

While each account is different, every prayer recorded in Scripture teaches us about the unchanging God who invites us to speak to and hear from Him. These prayers model for us what it can look like to be in conversation with God. As you read, notice the posture and emotions present each day.

Reading Scripture together is the centerpiece of what we do at He Reads Truth. As we spend time as a community reading Prayers in Scripture together, we encourage you to start by reading the daily Scripture on your own. Then join us here to engage and encourage one another as we respond to what we’ve read in the comments.

How does the image of a God who resurrects shape your understanding of prayer?

Prayer can be powerful for Christians. Faith is the key to effectual prayer. May we all pray more through every moment in life. I pray today for my daughter who entered a 12 month alcohol and drug addiction program yesterday. Her name is Audrey McConnell. Please pray that she will come closer to God and that she will stay in this program. My family and church will be praying for her recovery and reunification with her 4 year old daughter.

Mike, my husband and I will be praying for Audrey. We also have addiction in our family and our prayers were answered as our daughters have been in recovery 15 and 10 years. Naranon is a wonderful group that helps people with addicted love ones learn to cope with their loved one’s addiction. You can find many groups on FaceBook.

    2. Don says:

Prayers are with your daughter to find her path to recovery. Prayers for you and family for being there for her but not enabling but allowing her to face her choices and how they have forever changed her and those around her, that is her part.
For working patiently to understand addiction struggles, and last to strengthen yourself in all ways, this was not your choices. The 12 steps work if you work them.
Remember just like our relationship with God, addiction, recovery, and our paths are a Jounney not an Event.

    Prayers said for Audrey!!!

I pray for your daughter Aubrey may she find peace and be made while.

  4. Rhonda J. says:

I will be praying for your family as well Mike G. God loves her even more than you do, which is hard to fathom. Keep pouring love into that little 4-year-old!
