Day 17

The Firstfruits of the New Creation

from the reading plan

John 17:1-19, James 1:18, Philippians 3:20-21, 2 Corinthians 5:1-9, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Romans 8:18-25

Since 2015, He Reads Truth has maintained a singular mission: to be men in the Word of God every day. Seven years later, our community includes “Hes” from across the globe, but our mission hasn’t changed.

Reading Scripture together is the centerpiece of what we do at He Reads Truth. As we spend time as a community reading This Is The Church, we encourage you to start by reading the daily Scripture on your  own. Then join us here to engage and encourage one another as we respond to what we’ve read. Each day for this series, we’ll include a brief summary of the reading along with a prompt for conversation.

The Church is a display of Christ’s active work making all things new. As citizens of the eternal kingdom of God, we live in this world yet long for our true and eternal home.

Discussion Question: In light of today’s reading, how can you better live out the truth that we are a new creation commissioned by God?

Take time to reflect on your Scripture reading and today’s question. Share what you are learning with others in the community in the comments.

Being a new creation is daily being a servant of Christ. Living out the great commission and loving our neighbor as ourselves. Always displaying the love, patience, humility forgiveness and other fruits given us by the Holy Spirit. It is much easier said than done. Starting each day with He Reads Truth helps me to remember where my focus should be as I struggle to be more like Jesus everyday.

  2. John C says:

Living each day with the realization that as a Christian, I may not be accepted or popular with the world–with it’s thinking, with it’s ways. My motivation is not to be accepted, but to glorify God in my actions and reactions. Already accepted in Him and with Him, I can live life for Him, regardless of whether the world accepts me or approves of me. There is more to this life…than this life. That is our hope.

I love how Jesus prays that the Father not take them (us) out of the world, but for their protection from the evil one. It’s a reminder that every day we’re given on this side of eternity, we have a job to do – as “a new creation commissioned by God”. We are to love Him and love others, knowing we are being cared for every step of the way. Such a great reminder that yes, we eagerly wait when all things will be new (I’m in my mid-30’s and already feeling the “groans” haha). But until then, there’s work to do, and knowing God has our back is a pretty awesome thing 🙂
