After you finish reading today’s Scriptures, come back and read the essay here to dig deeper into the ways we see this specific promise at work in our day’s reading. Then join your fellow Bible readers in the comments to reflect on and discuss what you’re learning!

As we explore different promises found in the Old Testament, we begin with the New Testament assurance that “no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ” (2Co 1:20 NIV). Jesus himself, God who came in the flesh, “is before all things,” including the promises made in the Old Testament. It is through Him that all things hold together (Col 1:17).

Jesus Himself affirmed that the promises in the Old Testament find their fulfillment in Him, “beginning with Moses and all the prophets” (Lk 24:27). And as those living on the other side of Jesus’s resurrection, we get to look at the whole of Scripture and see that we follow a “faithful God who keeps his gracious covenant loyalty for a thousand generations” (Dt 7:9). So as you read the Old Testament promises this week, join with us in saying “‘Amen’ to the glory of God” that they find their ultimate fulfillment in Christ (2Co 1:20).
