Day 22

Marked by Baptism

from the reading plan

Matthew 3:13-17, John 3:3-6, Romans 6:1-11, 1 Peter 3:18-22, Galatians 3:27

Since 2015, He Reads Truth has maintained a singular mission: to be men in the Word of God every day. Seven years later, our community includes “Hes” from across the globe, but our mission hasn’t changed.

Reading Scripture together is the centerpiece of what we do at He Reads Truth. As we spend time as a community reading This Is The Church, we encourage you to start by reading the daily Scripture on your  own. Then join us here to engage and encourage one another as we respond to what we’ve read. Each day for this series, we’ll include a brief summary of the reading along with a prompt for conversation.

Jesus, in His own baptism, demonstrates the new life accomplished for us in His death and resurrection. Baptism is an external sign belonging to the people of God.

Discussion Question: What attributes of God do you notice in today’s reading?

Take time to reflect on your Scripture reading and today’s question. Share what you are learning with others in the community in the comments.

  1. Mike G says:

God requires a clean, sinless heart before He can commune with us. Only through the cleansing blood of Jedus do we have the ability to approach God. Baptism is a symbol of my repentance and God’s forgiveness that washes away the old sinful self. Now I have the ability to be a child of God.

  2. Charles Shinn says:

Jesus has set the example for me to follow. This at times is so easy and other times it seems that my selfish self just gets in the way. I want to live a life dedicated to Him.

  3. John C says:

In today’s reading, I see the humility of Christ in Matthew 3:13-17, His omnipotence in His power over death in Romans 6, and His long-suffering in 1 Peter 3. I can strive to put on His humility and have His patience in my daily walk while trusting in His power to overcome the sin that so easily wants to rule over me through the day.
