Day 2

The Fear of God

from the reading plan

Proverbs 1:7, Proverbs 3:5–8, Proverbs 14:2, Proverbs 14:27, Proverbs 23:17–18, Proverbs 24:21–22

After completing your daily reading, come back to chat with fellow Bible readers about any reflections you have on the proverbs, introduction, or questions from today.

When we fear God, we revere Him as holy, set apart, above all, and more magnificent than we could imagine. Though our fear of earthly things can lead us toward a posture of hiding, the fear of the Lord requires that we draw near, in worship and in adoration, to the only One who is truly worthy.

Reflection Questions:

What ideas, definitions, or images come to mind at the phrase “the fear of the Lord”?

How do these proverbs define the fear of the Lord?

Read Proverbs 14:2 again. What makes it hard for you to “live with integrity”?
