While wandering far from his homeland and disputing with his family, Abraham’s faith is expressed in His endurance. His faith in God gave him hope as he looked ahead to what God was building.

In the Genesis passage, Abram is given the land that is not as beautiful or enticing, but he is willing to follow God where He wants him to go. In the world today, Sodom and Gomorrah would be attractive to many, but would be places that likely would stifle spiritual growth because of their seductive allure if we were not careful to remain true to our values.

If we are to grow in the Christian life, we often are called to live unlike those around us. Whether we are to live apart from those groups or are called to live and work among them, but live to a higher standard, we often will live like Abram and not like Lot. Then again, when we see how their lives turned out, it is a clear sign of the long-term benefits of following the ways of God.
