By He Reads Truth
Since 2015, He Reads Truth has maintained a singular mission: to be men in the Word of God every day. Seven years later, our community includes “Hes” from across the globe, but our mission hasn’t changed.
Reading Scripture together is the centerpiece of what we do at He Reads Truth. As we spend time as a community reading This Is The Church, we encourage you to start by reading the daily Scripture on your own. Then join us here to engage and encourage one another as we respond to what we’ve read. Each day for this series, we’ll include a brief summary of the reading along with a prompt for conversation.
Jesus’s love for the Church is expressed through the imagery of a perfect shepherd and his flock. Unlike the negligent shepherds who previously led God’s people, Jesus delights to search for, gather, and tend to His flock, even laying down His life for His sheep.

The past two years have been challenging within my local church and the denominational organization to which it aligns. Hard season. The line as you wrote “the image of Jesus as the perfect shepherd caring for His flock, the Church”, has been what has kept me sane and connected. The little “c” church is beautifully flawed, led and attended by imperfect men and women, yet still Christ’s bride. The BIG “C” Church is His. It is immovable, unshakable and will endure until Christ’s return. Thank you for today’s reminder of this foundational truth.

I have always been told sheep are very dumb animals. Such a good analogy for us humans struggling through daily life. Thanks be to God for our Good Shepherd who leaves the 99 just to save the one lost sheep! There is so much in the Ezekiel passage that challenges me to be a better Christian in my daily life!

As I reflect on what a great shepherd Jesus is, putting me ahead of Him, I can’t help but wonder how I am imitating Him and being a good shepherd also. Am I loving the flock, putting the needs of the flock first and seeking out the lost sheep.

To me these verses just speak to the heart of God and how much He loves us. To not leave us in our mess when we decided we knew better. But to continue to pursue us and provide ways for us to be with Him – ultimately in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, the Good Shepherd.
