Day 28

Weekly Truth

from the John reading plan

John 1:5

Memorizing Scripture is a way to carry God’s Word with you wherever you go, keeping God-breathed instruction, reproof, and truth in your heart and mind each day.

Over the four weeks of this study, we have been memorizing the first five verses in John’s Gospel, pivotal words on the person and calling of Christ. This week we will memorize the final verse, a verse of great hope.

That light shines in the darkness,
yet the darkness did not overcome it.
—John 1:5

Write this verse down, keep it in your wallet, post it on your mirror or at your desk — anywhere you will see it often. Save the image below as a lock screen on your phone so you can read the verse throughout the day.

  1. Ken Fuller says:

I am now that light shining in the darkness. I am not to be the source of the light. The darkness WILL overcome any light I attempt to produce. But when the source is Christ shining from within, there is victory for Him. Lord, take to where You want to shine. Fill my heart with love enough to not fear the darkness that is around me no matter how close to death I might come. Let my eyes see those around me that need Your light and listen to Your calling to act, speak or be whatever You need. Amen
