Take this day as an opportunity to catch up on your reading, pray, and rest in the presence of the Lord.
These all died in faith without having received the promises, but they saw them from a distance, greeted them, and confessed that they were foreigners and temporary residents on the earth. Now those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. If they were thinking about where they came from, they would have had an opportunity to return. But they now desire a better place—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

The author of Hebrews is peaking about several iconic members of the faith that had gone before them. Such as Abraham and Sarah. He speaks of the miracle of Sarah having a child at the age at which she did. The author says that “all of these died in faith never seeing the things promised”. But those after them dos see the promises. Most of the times the life that we live with Christ is not for us, but for those behind us. For the next generation to receive the reward that we have sought after. If the only reward you ever received for your faithfulness was heaven, would you be okay with that?

Our hope is not of this world. Just as Jesus is not of this world, neither are we. I have hope because Jesus has given us the promise of his righteousness and we either trust and believe him or we don’t.
