Day 11

from the Lent 2016 reading plan

Matthew 6:9-13

Take this day to catch up, sit in God’s presence, and read and reflect on the scripture below.

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
-Matthew 6:9-13 KJV

I will respond by following this way of communing with God, my father and king of the universe. Trusting him both for my immediate and very human needs like my daily bread as well as trusting him to finally defeat evil and conquer temptation. I will respond by forgiving others and working forgiveness out in my own heart. Letting the kingdom expand in me and through me trusting that it expands beyond me…

  2. Jonathon M says:

The gospel is the answer to our questions “lord teach us to pray” Jesus actually answers this question. The gospel is the good news that Jesus has come so that we may actually in fact know how to commune with God and what our posture should be before the King. We are not without way means or example because Jesus both makes the way and shows us the way.

  3. Jonathon M says:

This teaches me that man doesn’t know how to pray. We need to be taught how to commune with our Father. We have needs and faults that prayer brings to the surface. We need to be forgiven. Provided for, protected, lead away from the temptation that we drift towards. And that if God is our father we are children and family.

  4. Jonathon M says:

This teaches me that God is our father and we are invited to experience him as both king of the universe and intimate loving provider. He both gives us bread daily and protects us from evil of the world. His kingdom is advancing and he is on the move. He is tender to forgive and holy and heavenly

It reminds me to pray into all things.

  6. Patrick Shen says:

With reflection and tradition as my guide.

  7. Patrick Shen says:

God has given us the words to pray when we can’t find them.

  8. Patrick Shen says:

Jesus gives us a direct line to the fathers ear.

    Our father…

  10. Isaac Jones says:

Our Father has a place called Heaven. Gods name is Holy. His kingdom is coming and His will is done. God fills the needs of His people not once for all their lives, but daily providing. God will not lead us into temptation, He will deliver us from evil; He is the deliverer. God’s kingdom, power and glory last forever.

  11. Isaac Jones says:

I will respond in gospel prayers recognizing the holiness of God, my need for him, and my hope of His perfect kingdom coming.

  12. Isaac Jones says:

Man is to correctly recognize the true God of heaven. Man is to rely on God daily for food and deliverance from snares of evil. Man needs prayer.

  13. Isaac Jones says:

This teaches me that God is perfect, and we are not. We need God to hear our prayers and deliver us. Gods kingdom is coming; this world is not our home. This prayer is a prayer with gospel expectation; it shows our inability to care for ourselves, the holiness and power of God, and our need for Him to help us in our neediness.

  14. Isaac Jones says:

    Heavenly Father,
You are holy and mighty. Wisdom is upon your head and strength in your hand. God please take care of me for the sake of your holy name. Please do not let my sin overcome me, but deliver me to righteousness by faith. May I be gracious like you and forgive others as you have forgiven me in Christ. May you kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. All power, honor, glory, and truth are yours. Please bring is out of the world of sin and into your kingdom of righteousness.
